With conversations about global warming increasing, we thought we’d help shed a little light on the benefits of buying Antique and Vintage jewellery.

More and more people are trying to live sustainably and do their bit for the environment - by purchasing vintage items rather than new, you will also be helping to reduce the environmental impact.

Diamond and metal mining in itself comes with ethical issues, from erosion in areas surrounding the mines, to pollution problems involving nearby rivers which lead to eco-systems being destroyed; it’s a never ending cycle.

It also takes a lot of water and energy - the more used, the bigger the emissions of greenhouse gases.

Lots of diamonds and gems are mined around the world and imported, which adds to the travel, and in turn increases carbon emissions released into the atmosphere.

In contrast, when you buy antique or vintage items, you’re extending the life of a piece that’s already been mined, manufactured, travelled etc.

Antique items were also made in a time when things weren’t mass produced, again, you won’t be contributing to the mass production process.

You also will have an individual item, many antique diamonds were cut by hand, making each of them completely unique.

Today, most modern jewellery is cast, even in high-end bespoke modern pieces, it’s almost impossible to find the same level of quality and workmanship as we regularly see in vintage jewellery.

In the past, jewellery was made by highly skilled artisans who took a great deal of time creating bespoke pieces for wealthy clients. As a result - the workmanship is often more refined than even the best jewellery made today.

To top it off, most antique or vintage jewellery dealers are one-man-bands or small teams of family-run businesses, so buying old jewellery supports small businesses as opposed to big corporations.

So, when you purchase an item from us, you can have the peace of mind knowing you’ve helped reduce any further damage to our beautiful environment…and you’ll be the proud owner of a gorgeous piece of jewellery!

Be a conservator, not a consumer.
